How to make a website with AI

Making a website with AI means two things: letting AI build a first version, and letting an AI assistant make changes afterward. With SitePack you can do both. You answer a few questions and Packy, our assistant, builds a first version of your site. Later you connect an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to update your pages, menus, products and translations by asking. This guide explains how it works, what AI does well, what it cannot do for you, and how to try it free for 14 days.

In short
  • AI can build a first version of your website from a few answers, but you check the facts, photos and prices yourself.
  • On SitePack, Packy builds a first version when you start your free trial: you choose your industry, goals and style.
  • After that you connect an AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and update your site by asking in plain language.
  • The connection is tied to one site and to the permissions you approve. It never spends money or changes billing.
  • Start with 14 days free, then a plan from 15 euro per month keeps the site online.

What making a website with AI really means

There are two different jobs behind making a website with AI. The first is the start: turning a few answers about your business into a first version with pages, texts and a design. The second is everything after launch: changing a price, adding a page, translating a text, which is where most sites quietly go stale. AI is useful for both, because they are mostly about structure and wording. It is weak at what only you know: your real opening hours, your real prices, your photos and your customers. A good setup lets AI do the typing and leaves you in charge of what is true.

Where AI helps most

  • First versions of pages and texts
  • Translating a page into another language
  • Tidying up SEO titles and descriptions
  • Repetitive edits across many pages or products
Good to know
AI that invents things is a risk for a business site. Reviews, years of experience and numbers on a page should come from you, not from a model.

Step 1: start with a first version from Packy

When you start a SitePack trial, Packy asks a few questions: what kind of business you run, what you want your site to do and what style you like. From your answers Packy builds a first version of your site: the pages, a homepage in a theme that fits your industry, your company profile and a few selling points. You can open it straight away and change anything in the visual editor. The goal is a site you can react to instead of a blank page. Packy is built to leave out invented reviews and statistics, but check every text before you publish anyway.

What you do yourself

  • Choose your industry and what the site must do
  • Pick a style you like
  • Review the pages Packy built
  • Replace placeholders with your own details: address, hours, prices
  • Add your own photos

Step 2: prepare what AI cannot know

A first version is only as good as the facts behind it. Gather what only you can supply before you publish: your address and opening hours, your real prices or starting prices, a few clear photos of your work, team or space, and your registration and VAT number where the rules in your country ask for them. Real photos beat stock images, and an AI cannot take them for you. If your site has a webshop, check every price, description and stock level yourself.
  • Address, phone number and opening hours
  • Real prices or starting prices
  • Your own photos and logo
  • Business details such as registration and VAT number where required

Step 3: connect an AI assistant to your site

Once your site exists, you can connect an AI assistant to it with MCP, the Model Context Protocol, a standard way for AI tools to work with outside services. SitePack offers one connector for all of them. You add it in your assistant's settings, sign in with your SitePack account, choose your site and approve what the assistant may do. The connector address is your admin address followed by /api/mcp, for most customers https://admin.sitepack.eu/api/mcp. This works with the Claude desktop app, ChatGPT (on a plan that allows custom connectors), Cursor, VS Code with Copilot in agent mode, Claude Code and the OpenAI Codex CLI. Any other tool that supports MCP can connect too.

What an assistant can do on your site

  • Read, create and rewrite pages, including SEO fields and status
  • Change menus, including the translated labels
  • Search the media library, upload or import images and update alt text
  • Update products and categories: prices, stock, options and variants
  • Manage tags and USPs
  • Manage the content that apps add
  • See what still needs translating and fill it in
  • Update the footer and your company profile

Step 4: ask in plain language

You do not need special commands. Describe what you want and the assistant uses SitePack's tools to do it, then tells you what it changed. Naming the connector in your first message, for example 'Using SitePack, ...', helps the assistant pick the right tools. A few examples that work well:
  • Which pages on my site have no meta description?
  • Add an About us item to the main menu, with a Dutch label.
  • Draft a services page in Dutch and English, and keep it as a draft.
  • Which pages still need a German translation?
  • Show me all products that are out of stock.
Good to know
New pages start as drafts, so you can review before anything goes live. Catalog changes such as prices apply straight away, so read the assistant's summary and ask it to read an item back if something looks off.

What stays in your hands

Connecting an AI to your site sounds bigger than it is, because the limits are built in. The connection is tied to the one site you choose on the permission screen, so other sites in your account stay out of reach. It only gets the permissions you approve, and you can deny them or disconnect at any time. It never asks for anything that places orders, spends money or changes billing. Images need one extra step. The assistant cannot link a picture straight from another website: it uploads or imports it into your media library first (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP or AVIF, up to 10 MB) and then places it.
Good to know
AI makes mistakes. Look at the result before you publish, especially facts, prices and legal texts such as your terms and privacy policy.

Make it findable, not just live

A site made with AI still has to be found. Give each page a clear title and a short description in the words your customers use, use your own domain and check the result on a phone. On SitePack every page has its own SEO title, description and focus keyword, and an assistant can fill them in for all pages at once; you decide which wording is right. Write for the question a customer asks, not for the tool that wrote the text. Pages that say clearly who they are for and answer the obvious questions are found and understood better than pages full of generic text.

Try it before you pay

Start a 14-day free trial, answer Packy's questions and look at the first version of your site. Connect an assistant if you want to try editing by asking. When the trial ends you choose a plan to keep the site online, from 15 euro per month, billed annually, with hosting, domain, business email and SSL included. Everything you built carries over. Would you rather not do any of this yourself? We also build the website for you, for 500 euro one-off.
