Accept SEPA direct debit in your webshop
Short answer
With SitePack Payments you accept SEPA direct debit in your webshop, next to PayPal, cards and Wero. The customer authorises a one-off debit from their bank account at the checkout. A SEPA direct debit costs 0.45 euro per payment on Online Store Starter and 0.40 euro on Grow, excluding VAT.
How SEPA direct debit works
At the checkout the customer enters their name and IBAN and authorises you to collect the order amount from their account. The amount is then collected through the SEPA system, which works the same way in every euro country. Unlike a card or Wero payment, a direct debit is not confirmed instantly: collecting the money takes a few working days.
- The customer enters their IBAN and gives a mandate
- The amount is collected from their bank account
- Works across the SEPA area with a euro account
- A fixed rate per payment, whatever the order amount
What to know before you offer it
A SEPA direct debit can be reversed. Under the SEPA rules a customer can ask their bank to refund an authorised direct debit within eight weeks, and a debit can also bounce if there is not enough money in the account. Decide when you ship: many shops wait until the payment is in, or only offer direct debit to returning customers.
- Collecting the money takes a few working days
- Customers can request a refund from their bank within eight weeks
- A returned direct debit carries a separate fee, listed on the pricing page
- Consider shipping only after the payment has arrived
